James David Lōser is a painter and graphic designer living in Chamblee, Georgia in the Atlanta Metro area. A third generation Swiss American he was born and raised in Clarksburg, West Virginia. He studied graphic design and fine art at West Liberty University near Wheeling, West Virginia. His Department Chair at WLU, mentor, renown regional artist and now long time friend Bernie Peace made sure he visited many great works of art in person in New York and Pittsburgh during his formative undergrad years. It was there that he fell in love with painting, especially the works of Matisse, the Fauves and their progeny, the Abstract Expressionists. Jim received his Master of Fine Arts degree from Florida State University where he studied with the British painter Trevor Bell and American printmaker William Walmsley among other fine teachers and guest artists. He has been an adjunct instructor at Florida State and a Professor of Graphic Design at the Savannah College of Art and Design. Jim worked as a creative director for twenty plus years in the Atlanta market and currently has his own design firm, Engage Design.
Jim has exhibited his work in London, New York and the Southeast United States. His work is in several permanent collections and numerous private collections. He is currently represented by IDEA Gallery in Chamblee, Georgia.
